Time Management At Work

If you’re going to reach the top of your profession, you have to master it. The quickest way to master it is to use effective time management at work. We all have 24 hours a day, and have certain tasks that need to be completed. The more productive you are, and the more tasks you can efficiently complete means the better you will become.

It’s true that certain jobs require a more demanding schedule than others. However, no matter what job you work at, you can benefit from time management at work. No matter what you do, there are always time wasters that are currently draining some of your productivity. You can get rid of those with smart time management.

What follows is a list of tips to help you start practicing good time management at work.

1. Go to each meeting with a plan, and stick to the schedule. Nothing is a bigger waste of time then planning and preparing a meeting with no agenda. It will become very easy to get sidetracked. Also, impose time limits on the different topics on the agenda.

2. Don’t waste time surfing on the Internet when you should be working. There is a very easy question you can ask yourself that will help you with time management at work — “is this the most important task that I should be doing now?” Very rarely is surfing the Internet the most important task you should be doing.

3. Plan your communication in advance. Set aside time each day to respond to e-mails and phone calls. Let people know that you can only be reached at a certain time. This way you can set up boundaries, so your time is not wasted playing phone tag or with unnecessary communication.

4. Know when to take action, and know when to delegate. There are certain tasks that are better suited for others. If you are doing them, when you could be doing something more productive, it’s time to do that more productive thing.
