Things To Consider Before Buying A Pet

Pets are the ultimate friend, the best gift you can give yourself. They listen without judging, they cheer you up and make you laugh and are utterly devoted to you.

All that a pet asks for is love, food and time with you.

If you think that you are ready for a pet, or are thinking of purchasing one, here is a list of things to consider before you do:

1. Can you handle the responsibility of owning a pet?

Owning a pet is a lot of responsibility, just ask all the pets in the shelters who were abandoned because their owners didn’t realize that before they purchased them.

2. Can you afford the upkeep of a pet?

Feeding, paying for vets and general upkeep of a pet is not cheap.

3. Will you adopt from a shelter or purchase from a breeder?

Why pay for a pet when you can save one’s life instead?

4. What kind of pet do you want?

What kind of pet is right for you? Is a dog, cat, or snake right for you?

5. What size of pet are you looking for?

If you live in a little apartment, should you buy a rottweiller?

6. What are you looking for in a pet?

If you are looking for love, and a friend for life, you got it. Just give love and it will be returned.

7. Do you have a yard?

If you have a nice big yard, why not get a nice big dog, so they can run around and enjoy life like they should?

8. Why do you want a pet?

Are you looking for a show piece? Are you looking for a working animal like a husky? Or are you just looking for a friend?

9. Do you have children?

Are your children allergic to animals? Are they afraid of animals? Will you let them help in the search for the right pet?

10. Do you have existing pets?

Will the pets you already own accept the new one?

11. Do you have allergies?

Of course there is medicine to help with your allergies, but knowing you have them to help narrow down the breed that is just right for you.

With so many animals filling up the shelters today, if you have the love, money, space and time, why not rescue one today. Hell, rescue two.
