Before letting your delegates get into action, it is very important that they undergo proper delegation training in the related field of task. The purpose of delegation is mainly to assign and distribute responsibility among the employees. This means that they have to work upon the task and take decisions on their own without your interference. This calls for in-depth knowledge and practice into the concept and hence an effective delegation training is required for them. Similar to the rules of delegation there are certain rules to be followed while providing training to your staff.

Regulations Of Delegation Training

The need to provide an amicable working environment to your staff is as necessary as training them to do a task. A good delegation should take care of all these aspects and should aim to increase staff happiness. This would lead to their active participation in the accomplishment of tasks. Following are some rules to follow while hiring and training your delegates.

1) While you are hiring a candidate to fill a particular staff position, define clearly the type of personality required for the job.

2) Prepare a training schedule for the delegate and appoint one of your staff members as training-in-charge.

3) Employ a planned approach while delegating the responsibilities in a training schedule. Gradually add to the responsibilities along with specific guidelines. This helps in effective delegation training. The delegate will feel more important and confident and will be ready to accept challenges.

4) Maintain an updated staff policy manual regarding the job descriptions, vacations and leaves. Make it readily accessible to all the employees.

5) Conduct regular staff meetings in order to evaluate the working of the employees. You can discuss new products and procedures; staff conflicts etc., and educate them with all the required information.

6) Always allow the employees to make suggestions. In this manner, you would be able to evaluate their capabilities.

7) Never forget to compliment your delegate for a good job. At the same time, make them aware of the consequences of a poor job.

8) Allow your employees to attend regional meetings and seminars conducted from time to time. That will provide them an opportunity to interact with the staff of other offices and gain more knowledge.

9) Try to provide a comfortable and hygienic working environment for your staff members.

10) Avoid discrimination among employees and take strict action in case of any harassment among fellow employees.

The above are some of the essentials of good delegation training.

An Important Advice

Besides providing effective delegation training, a manager should take care of certain things to achieve a good performance of employees. You should not assign jobs to one or two capable employees only. This not only overloads that particular staff member but also induces an ill feeling among others. Wherever possible make it a point to assign the total responsibility of a task to a single person as it will increase the employee’s initiative, reduce confusions and help you have a good control over the outcome. Divide the task among several employees only if it is a highly technical complex task.

We always hire a person based upon his qualifications and previous experiences. However when it comes to handling the current job after his appointment he needs to be sufficiently educated relating to the existing field. All employees should undergo good delegation training before practically handling the task.
