Combine Desire And Discipline
Success is not a sprint, it is a long distance event
I believe that there is a desire to succeed buried in just about everyone, even if it’s buried rather deep in some, and yet not all of these people are successful. It takes both desire and discipline to achieve success. Another way of saying it might be inspiration mixed with perspiration. You have to work hard and be in it for the long haul to realize true success in your life.
Work alone will not do it for you. There must be a goal, a plan, an objective, so that you know what you’re working to achieve. Take the time to listen to your heart. Fully explore your dream(s) in your soul, and allow yourself to believe in the possibilities. In fact, don’t just allow this belief – insist upon it. Research, brainstorm and explore to flesh out a plan for yourself, never forgetting to actually implement this plan in order to make things happen.
And then, don’t be afraid to do the work. Get your hands dirty, dig into your work. Once you’ve figured out the steps that will (hopefully) bring your goals to life, then get started and work it daily. Break it down into baby steps so that there are achievable smaller goals on the way to the ultimate objective. Force yourself to do something in pursuit of your goals every single day, even if you sometimes feel overwhelmed or uncertain. After all, if you take enough small steps you’ll make great progress toward realizing your desire to succeed.
Prioritize your task list to ensure that you’re working on the most important elements of your plan. These priorities will change pretty regularly as you get new information and cross some items off of the list, so keep it very fluid. It is a mistake to think of a plan as being carved in stone, as things will change with time. Make it a regular part of your routine to take a good look at your prioritized to do list and shuffle it up as necessary.
And most importantly, never forget to nurture your beliefs and feed your soul with positive affirmations and belief. Inspiration and perspiration go hand in hand in your quest to achieve success. Inspiration without perspiration can leave you more enlightened but not much further ahead in life. Perspiration without inspiration will mostly just make you tired. Keep your thoughts headed in the right direction while you organize your efforts and do the work. It’s amazing how “lucky” you’ll start to feel once you have aligned these two important elements.
Even if your originally defined objectives ultimately elude you, you will have learned and developed so much along the way that you are still successful. You can look at the history of just about any leader to see that every single plan does not come to fruition, but the personal development you gain along the way is incredibly powerful. Building these habits will help you to adjust your goals and/or your plan, to bring that desire to succeed into the reality of achieved success.
