Important Life Lessons Everyone Should Know
All your life you have been force fed a list of clichés and sayings that you’ve heard a million times and have dismissed over the years for one reason or another.
The ironic thing is that there is always a nugget of truth to be gleaned from these words, and if you’d paid attention, you just might have learned something.
Here is a list of the most obvious clichés ever, and why you should have listened to them:
1. If you don’t give people respect, you won’t get it in return:
People want to be treated with respect, and when you do this, you win their confidence in you. If you don’t respect yourself, no one will either.
2. Nothing good in life comes without a fight:
It’s kind of annoying, but definitely true. Victory just feels better when you know you had to fight for it.
3. Good things do happen to good people:
This is important, how many bad people stay at the top for long? Not too many. They can weasel their way up the ladder, but the ride down is always much quicker.
Things To Consider Before Buying A Pet
Pets are the ultimate friend, the best gift you can give yourself. They listen without judging, they cheer you up and make you laugh and are utterly devoted to you.
All that a pet asks for is love, food and time with you.
If you think that you are ready for a pet, or are thinking of purchasing one, here is a list of things to consider before you do:
1. Can you handle the responsibility of owning a pet?
Owning a pet is a lot of responsibility, just ask all the pets in the shelters who were abandoned because their owners didn’t realize that before they purchased them.
2. Can you afford the upkeep of a pet?
Feeding, paying for vets and general upkeep of a pet is not cheap.
3. Will you adopt from a shelter or purchase from a breeder?
Why pay for a pet when you can save one’s life instead?
4. What kind of pet do you want?
What kind of pet is right for you? Is a dog, cat, or snake right for you?
How To Receive A Compliment Gracefully
Learn to say thank you rather than avoid a compliment
You wouldn’t think it would be hard to receive a compliment, but something about the process seems to escape a lot of people. Instead of graceful acceptance, the recipient of a compliment will sometimes revert to a negative rebuttal to whatever nice thing was said. Maybe you feel that the compliment was not accurate, or exaggerated, and that you therefore don’t deserve the recognition? (“Oh, I didn’t really do that much…”). Maybe you don’t feel comfortable calling attention to yourself? (“Oh, this old thing? I just threw it on this morning, it’s not that great…”). Whatever the reason, it’s not a very nice thing to do, to yourself or to the person who offered a sincere compliment.
Perhaps it’s human nature to think that you aren’t worthy of praise? Certainly, most people think they could have done better or been better than the reality of the situation. Why are we so hard on ourselves, though? The pursuit of progress and not perfection is crucial to our development and happiness. Instead of beating ourselves up for not being worthy of a compliment, why not accept with gratitude and appreciation, and strive to continue moving forward?
Memory Tips
From time to time, everyone experiences a lapse in memory that begins to convince that they are starting to lose their mind, or that their memory is fading.
Unless you are 55 years or older, this probably isn’t the case, there are probably many reasons why you aren’t able to retrieve certain memories at that point in your life.
Your brain needs regular exercise just like your body does, and if you want you memory to improve, you need to work at it. No pills can replace effort.
To improve your memory, try these10 tips:
1. Keep your brain active:
Sitting and staring at the TV all day long isn’t going to do anything to help improve your memory, in fact, it is more detrimental then you would probably believe. You need to keep stuffing your brain with facts, pictures and challenge it on a daily basis to see improvements.
2. Exercise daily:
The benefits of exercise on your body are too numerous to list here, but keeping oxygen flowing to the brain is important not just in keeping yourself alive, it also helps in keeping the mind clearer and more focused.
5 Tips For Stress Management
There are so many pressures in life today that just about everybody seems stressed out all the time. In fact, you’ve probably heard someone mention lately that they were feeling stressed. Stress is all around us.
While feeling the pressure of stress in not abnormal, if you allow that stress to remain without doing something to release it, you could cause serious damage to your health. These ten tips for stress management will help you release the pressure caused by stress.
1. Reduce your responsibilities. Much of the time, stress is brought about because of an overwhelming load of responsibilities. You can reduce your stress level immensely simply by giving up or doling out some of your responsibilities to others.
2. Ask for help. Many people who say they feel a great amount of stress also admit to not being able to ask for help because it makes them feel powerless and much like a wimp. Asking for help should be considered a sign of strength, not weakness. Stop trying to be super-human and ask for help when you need it.
