Anxiety is a mental state in which you worry excessively and experience a feeling of nervousness. It can be brought on by many different factors and usually leads to anxiety and panic attacks.

Anxiety can create tremendous emotional and physical problems. With it usually comes attacks, which make you feel like you can’t breathe. You might feel as though your throat has swollen and the air passage is closing. Some people feel lightheaded and dizzy, too. Overall, a feeling of loss of control overwhelms those who suffer with anxiety.

Fear plays a huge role in all this. In fact, fear can probably be pinpointed as the starting point of worry and anxiety.

The most common way fear worms its way into your mind is by playing the “What if…?” game. You might have a thought, then think, ‘What if…?’ These what if statements end up turning into huge, drawn-out thought processes that leave you feeling helpless and out of control.

It is important when you are fighting anxiety to remember that you are in control of your mind. You must calm yourself into a relaxed state of mind so that you do not trigger those what if thoughts again. You must learn to relax and ignore those hypothetical questions.

When you allow your fears to take control of your mind, anxiety kicks in worse than ever. It will plague your mind and body like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Take charge of your mind and throw fear out the window.

When you set goals, how do you keep up with them? Do you keep a record throughout the process? This is a very important part of goals. You should keep records so you can look back and discover the progress (or lack thereof) you’ve made towards your goals. Keeping a journal is a great way to do this. Here are some tips you can use on how to keep a journal for your goals.

JOURNAL OFTEN

It is important that you continue journaling often in your goal journal. Many people start keeping record of their progress, then tend to slack after a while. This usually happens when they become bored with their goals or are procrastinating, and thus not actually working towards their goals anymore.

RECORD DATES AND TIMES

As you journal about your goal process, remember to include dates and times on each entry. This is especially important because it will show you how long it took for you to step from one point to another.

REFLECT EACH MONTH

Usually your goals will either be long-term or will be reached and then new goals will be set. Either way, it is important for you to take time to reflect at the end of each month on where you are and what you’ve accomplished within the month. You’ll be able to spot flaws in time management and productivity. These can be tweaked for even better performance in upcoming months.

WRITE BRIEF ENTRIES

In most cases, you won’t need to create long, sprawling journal entries about your goals. Simply record the date and time, then write a brief statement about what you accomplished that day. For example, one of your journal entries might look something like this:

Friday, October 3, 2006

3:35 pm

Things I accomplished today:

* finished X project for Client B

* started Y project for Client D

* sent replies to email requests

Meditation is a terrific and easy way to relieve stress. Some people shy away from learning how to meditate because they associate the word “meditation” with new age or weird science. In truth, meditation is super easy to learn and can be practiced by anyone, regarding your religious belief.

One of the most important keys to meditation is harnessing your mental power. This is extremely difficult for many people. We are so accustomed to a fast-paced society that it is difficult to slow down and quiet the mind.

Because this type of meditation is so challenging, a new type of meditation has evolved. This one, called active meditation, is so easy that anybody can do it. You don’t have to sit still to practice this form of meditation. Rather, you can do it anywhere at anytime and still achieve the stress-relieving results of regular meditation.

This active meditation is perhaps the best way for beginners to start. The easiest way to practice active meditation is through simple exercise. Walking, jogging, or swimming are great times to try active meditation.

The process is simple. First, find something to focus your mind on. If you are swimming, focus on the muscles in your arms as you stroke. If you are jogging, concentrate your attention on your stride. This type of focused concentration is the central idea of meditation.

Once you master active meditation, you should consider practicing the formal type of meditation. Getting still and being quiet enables you to find your center and create a greater sense of calmness and peace in your mind and life.

Christmas is the time of the year when families gather together to celebrate as a family. It is also a time when much debate takes place over where Christmas will be spent. When you throw in blended families and in-laws, you end up with a whole mish-mash of invitations.

So how in the world do you decide where to spend Christmas? There is more than one way to deal with this problem. Finding the way that works best for you is something that could, unfortunately, take a few years to figure out.

Visit everyone

Some families choose to pack up the family vehicle and hit the road during Christmas week. They visit one family after another, accepting all invitations they receive. Of course, by the time they return home, toys and gifts have filled every nook and cranny. Not to mention bellies are too full from an entire day of eating on the run.

Draw a straw

Other families choose the draw a straw method. In this case, one spot is chosen for the family to spend Christmas. They spend Christmas with one family and enjoy the entire day there, without all the hassles of shuffling the whole family from one place to another all day. In this case, families usually choose to pick one family this year, then alternate it with another destination the next year. This way everybody is happy.

Just stay home

There are some who despise traveling for Christmas. Many families with younger children prefer to stay at home and enjoy Christmas as a family with their children. Although not very many families do this today, it is a possibility to try if you can’t decide where to spend Christmas this year.

Are you concerned about overindulging on holiday party foods? Do you want to ensure you get the proper nutrition during the holidays? The holidays are notoriously blamed for weight gain.

Most who celebrate holidays with feast-filled gatherings neglect to increase exercise as well. This simple oversight can lead to adding a large amount of excess weight in a very short amount of time.

As we all know, celebrating the holidays is hardly accomplished without eating. This year you can make smarter decisions about what to put in your mouth, though.

Here is a list of twelve healthy foods you can snack on during the holidays that won’t put on the pounds.

1. Fresh vegetables with low-fat dip
2. Marinated, grilled chicken breast (boneless, skinless) fingers
3. Nuts & seeds
4. Whole-grain cereals
5. Low-fat mozzarella sticks
6. Salsa
7. Reduced-fat & whole-grain crackers
8. Fresh fruit kabobs
9. Kettle’s potato chips (just a handful or two)
10. Granola bars
11. Rice cake with peanut butter
12. Yogurt

Of course, family gatherings aren’t always filled with healthy foods. As such, you should remember to plan ahead for every social event. Volunteer to bring party foods along. This way you can be sure that there will be healthy foods available for you to snack on.

It is possible to maintain healthy eating habits during the holidays. You have to be proactive in doing this for yourself, though.

Too many people make goal setting a difficult thing to accomplish. The truth is that goal setting is simple and easy and anybody can do it. Here are three very simple steps that will get you started on the right foot for setting your goals.

1) Decide what you want. Dream and dream big. There is no dream too big or too little. There is an old saying that goes something like this: “Reach for the moon and fall among the stars.” Never settle for “just anything.”

The main key to deciding what you want is to determine what you are lacking. What is the one thing you wish you could do or have right now that you don’t? If you could only achieve one thing in your lifetime, what would that single thing be?

2) Create your action map. Dreaming big is just one very small part of the picture. You have to know how to get where you want to go.

Once you have a goal in place, it’s time to sit down and set some solid, achievable steps. These steps will carry you closer and closer to your final goal. An action map is not an option-it’s essential to reaching your goal.

3) Do it. All the dreaming and planning in the world will get you nowhere unless you move yourself into action. Make a plan, and then follow through by getting up every day and doing something that will take you one more step closer to your goal.

Can you reach your goal? Of course! First dream big, next make a plan, then finally, start working towards reaching your dream.

Goal setting is something that anyone can do. But after having set your goals, are they lacking oomph? Do you feel totally uninspired by them, so much so that you’ve already forgotten all about them? Take a look at how you can add some life to your goals…

Dream bigger. Are your goals so small and insignificant that you don’t care about them? While it is important to be realistic when setting goals, it is equally important to allow yourself to dream big. Set some goals that you can accomplish quickly, as a self-esteem and confidence booster. Then set some bigger goals that will take a little longer and a little more work to accomplish.

Reward yourself. Sometimes your goals are great ones. The problem is that you lose excitement because you don’t reward yourself for your accomplishments. Set up several benchmarks and when you reach each one, give yourself something nice as a reward: a day at the spa, a manicure, a shopping trip. Be sure to save the best reward for last!

Get others involved. A terrific way to stay motivated and excited about your goals is to get others involved. Enlist some close friends or family members as your personal cheerleader. Ask them to help you stay motivated and focused by checking up on your progress and complimenting you on jobs well done.

If your goals aren’t getting you excited, then it’s time to change that today. After all, what good is a goal if you aren’t ecstatic about reaching it?

Everyone has dreams and wants, but the difference between a pipe dream and a realistic one is the ability to turn that dream into an achievable goal.

Goal setting can be useful to anyone who has ever dreamed of something, but haven’t been able to achieve it, yet.

The biggest issue: Where to start?

Step One: Writing down your goals.

The first step is writing down your goals. Seeing your desires on paper can help you see whether or not your wants are realistic and if they are something you actually want, instead of something that sounds good.

When setting goals, it is important that your goals are positive, realistic and attainable.

If your goal is a big house, expensive car, or haute couture clothing, maybe you should take some time to do a little soul searching before you start setting your goals, because those goals can only change the way people think about you, not the way you think about yourself.

Goals should be centred on your inner self, and aimed at self improvement and an increase in self-confidence.

Once you have written down your goals, review them and ask yourself:

1. Why are these goals important to me?
2. What do I ultimately want to accomplish with these goals?
3. Are these goals realistic?
4. How will I accomplish these goals?

Step 2: Devise a plan to achieve your goals.

Once you have decided that your goals are for the right purpose and that you are ready to begin, start by devising a plan of attack.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, so using baby steps to get the ball rolling is probably the best way to start. If you want to get in better shape, start by walking around the block, not by running the Boston Marathon.

The first step will always be the hardest, usually because of self-doubt, but once you take that first leap into achieving your goals, your feelings of accomplishment at each step can propel you to the end of your goal.

Step 3: Stay focused on your goals.

Being focused on your goals is extremely important and keeping at it, even in the face of adversity, will only make you stronger. Conflict is great for character building, and becoming a happier, healthier you, should be the most important goal for anyone.

Step 4: Review your goals

Doing a daily review of your goals is essential to keep you focused on the prize. Checking off the steps as you have achieved them will help fuel your fire to attain the end result.

Doing a weekly review of your goals is a good way to see just how far you have come, and will help you focus on the road ahead.

Everyone deserves success, and everyone can achieve success.

When you write down your goals, you take that first step to becoming the person that you’ve always dreamed of becoming.

You can do it, just grab a pen and paper, and start down the path of success, today.

Do you feel like there’s just not enough hours in each day? Do you struggle with a heavy load and never able to accomplish everything that needs to be done? If you find yourself worn out from being rushed all the time, try these free time management tips to get yourself back on track again:

TIME MANAGEMENT TIP #1: Drop half your work load. You’re probably thinking that isn’t possible, but it is. The truth is that you can most likely stop doing half of what you do every day and nobody would be any worse of because of it. Overloading yourself, whether at work or at home, creates a vicious cycle of never having enough time because you have way too much to do.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIP #2: Get a planner…and use it. Whether a paper planner or digital, this could be your best friend in a few weeks. As soon as you have an appointment, make note of it in your planner. You’ll use your planner to stay focused and on task and should never be late for another appointment again.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIP #3: Turn off the phone. The telephone is, next to the Internet, one of the biggest time wasters ever. When you’re ready to start working on an important project or task, turn off the ringer on your telephone. When you finish the task, you can turn the ringer back on again. This will prevent interruptions that could cause you to become sidetracked.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIP #4: Let someone else do it. In addition to dropping half your work load, start doling out responsibilities to others. At home, put your children in charge of household chores, like laundry or dirty dishes. At work, form a team and hand out task sheets for everyone to pull together and get the job done.

With the holidays gone, it’s time to start the new year off with some weight loss goals. If you’ve been thinking about going on a diet, or feel the need to lose a few more pounds or inches, this is the perfect time to make it happen.

STEP #1: WRITE IT DOWN

What are your weight loss goals? Do you need to lose ten pounds? Do you want to get to the gym three days per week and build your muscle tone? Would you like to start that exercise routine you’ve been thinking about to lose several inches?

Write down your goals. Keep them in a place where you’ll see them often. Better yet, create a mini poster with an inspirational quote or two and your weight loss goals. Then tack your poster to the wall or refrigerator so you will see it often.

STEP #2: BE REALISTIC

The biggest mistake most people make is setting a goal to lose a huge amount of pounds. This can seem overwhelming and even impossible. Rather than doing this, set small goals for yourself. Try losing five pounds first. When you reach that first five, set a second goal to lose five more. Whatever your goal is, make sure it is doable. It’s impossible for anyone to lose 30 pounds in two weeks and still remain healthy.

STEP #3: INCORPORATE REWARDS

This is an important tidbit of advice. Setting your weight loss goals is great, but you must include rewards for yourself as well. Goals create a sense of urgency. Rewards help to motivate you to completion.
