When you are giving a presentation or speech, your body language and how you hold yourself in front of a crowd speaks to them as much as your words do. And part of not begin nervous in front of people when you are doing public speaking is not “acting” nervous. If you have complete control over your body, your face and your hands, you can perform relaxation in front of people and you will actually accept the idea that you are relaxed and begin to feel more at ease as you do your speech.

One problem that you often see in public speakers who is the use of the eyes. It’s extremely easy as a public speaker to want to look at your outline or your written out speech throughout your presentation so you never get lost or have that terrifying feeling of not knowing what you are going to say next. That is why many people who do not become skilled at talking in front of crowds write out their speeches word for word and just read it to the group.

The problem with that approach is you have been asked to give a speech, not a reading. And many adults take offense at being read to. An audience wants to hear “from” you, not just hear you read. If that was the only value of a public presentation, you could just hand out your speech as a white paper and let them read it and not have to get in front of people at all. But that is not as effective as public speaking, particularly if the purpose of your speech is to convince or to sell.

So the question comes up of where to actually look as you give your speech. Many speakers look at a spot at the back of the room because looking at the faces makes them nervous. This is better than staring down at your papers the whole time. For one thing, projection is a big part of getting your message out there. And even if you are using a microphone, if you speak “out” into the crowd rather than down, your voice will be clearer and you will naturally use your diaphragm to do well at enunciating each word.

The other value of looking at the back wall is that it will help you project your voice, particularly if you are not using amplification. The old actor’s motto of “performing to the last row” applies here because it means you consider everyone in that hall to be your audience, not just the people on the first row. So there is some value to that approach.

However, one of the most valuable ways you can really connect with your audience and get your message across is to make eye contact with the audience. Eye contact is commonly used by sales people to create a bond with the customer and that bond helps close the sale. But even if your presentation is not necessarily a sales situation, eye contact will get your message across. And that is what you got up there to do in the first place.

Eye contact makes the audience look at you. It keeps them attentive. To use eye contact to its maximum value, move your eyes from audience member to audience remember and speak to that individual directly. That eye contact will actually be felt by everyone around that individual and it rivets the listener to you. Don’t linger on one person because you don’t want to stare but by becoming skilled at using eye contact as you speak to a crowd, you are taking control of the presentation to make it do what you want it to do. And having control is a big key to success in public speaking.

Some people are aggravating with their comments about your body language. It seems that they only use these observations to make you feel uncomfortable or inferior. These people make knowing body language seem like an obnoxious habit. However, there are some very important reasons why it is good to know about body language.

One reason to know body language is to evaluate situations. For one thing, it’s good to know when you are being lied to. Sometimes the person wants to avoid telling you an unpleasant truth. At these times, you may find it necessary to get to the bottom of things. It would be a good time to know body language to determine if the person is being honest.

At other times, the lie poses some sort of threat to you. When this happens, you need to sort out fact from fiction so you will know how to protect yourself. Body language will help you to do this.

In any kind of business, it is necessary to size up the competition. It is also essential to know the attitude of your customer. Usually these people won’t tell you what’s on their minds. The rival will hide this to dominate you, while the customer might not really know his/her own mind.

If you know body language in these situations, you will get much further than if you don’t. The opposition can’t blind-sight you. You’ll be ready for him/her because you understand the situation. You will be able to work with the customer since you can tell when the person has reservations.

Knowing how to speak the body language of animals can keep you safe. If you give the right gestures, you can signal to an animal that you are friendly and will not harm them. This can save you from being bitten. If you project dominance too soon with your body language, you may be repaid with an attack.

Creating a good first impression can be aided by knowing a few things about body language. This can help you in any situation where you meet people. It may be in a job interview. Your body language may help you land the job.

You could meet people at a party. You could even meet new people at church or a club. Whenever you do, attention to body language can leave them with a favorable impression.

If you are placed in a position of responsibility for other people, knowing body language can again come to your aid. You can try methods of converting body language into a posture of authority and confidence. Projecting these attributes is important in leading people.

The dance of meeting, courting, and love all revolve around body language. You can attract a certain person using the right gestures and body movements. You can show what you want to show them about your feelings if you have the body language skill.

Every aspect of life is filled with expressions of body language by you and those around you. It’s important to understand both the world and the feelings you are displaying towards it.

We must manifest the ability to manage our time according to our goals. If we are spending hours watching television or chatting with friends online or not, we are not investing our valuable time in manifesting the abilities to reach our goals and manage our time. Rather, we are wasting what can never be returned to us. Once time is gone, there is no turning back. Friends, family, self, school, work, activities, and entertainment, as well as other tasks, duties, chores, fun time, et cetera play a role in managing time. The trick is to find a solution to do all the things you want to do without wasting too much time doing it. I will lay out a chart in this article that may help manifest the ability to manage your time wisely while you reach your goals and enjoy life while you are doing it.

Chart

Family: How much time does your family require of you to spend time with them? Does your family understand your needs, goals, and plans? Do you regularly communicate by sitting at the dinner table and discussing with your family what you intend to achieve each day to reach a targeted goal that benefits everyone? Do you include your family in the goals you set for yourself?

Friends: Does your friends understand that you have a goal you intend to reach. Do you have friends that allow you to make your own decisions in the time you spend with them?

Work: What are your hours of work? How much of that time spent could be spent somewhere else? Does your work meet the requirements of your time management scheme financial situation to reach your targeted goal? Do you work at a job that takes more of your time than the time allowed in a single day?

Entertainment: How much time are you spending to watch television or movies? Are you so consumed in non-paying sports that you are spending more time here than other areas where you could reach for your goals? Do you frequent bars?

Self: Do you take time out of your busy schedule to take care of you?

School: Are you spending too much time on schoolwork, simply because you procrastinated?

Activities: Which activities that you attend benefit your time management plan to reach your goals?

Now we can examine each question one by one, knocking out wasted time, and increasing the ability to reach your goal. Starting with family, which is THE most important obligations in our life, we can see that we have to or are responsible to spend time with our families. There is no escaping this responsibility. However, there is away to manifest the ability to manage your time with your family, and include your family in that time management scheme which reaches a goal that benefits everyone. Since today, families are working together in a hard-core world that makes it difficult as the time progress. If you are a family working together, you are a family on the road to success. It is important that you at least once everyday sit and have a meal together as a family. Spend an hour or so on entertainment and activities that bring forth a happy family and successful future.

Friends are individuals we all need in our lives, but if those friends are requiring more of your time than you can spare, then those are not real friends. Real friends will support you in your time managing scheme to reach your goal and will understand if you can’t spare the time they require of you. Good friends will even help you sometimes when your time management scheme is off track, by letting you know when you are on the wrong road to success. Quality time with friends should be managed wisely.

Work is essential for reaching the goals you set for your self and family. While you are at work, YOU should be working to finish your job, which is an element of time management that helps you to reach your goals sooner.

Entertainment is an option we have. Entertainment is a pleasurable action or force that we indulge, and if we are obsessively spending time on entertainment, we are not manifesting ability to managing our time.

Self is important. Take time out for your self, and spend wise time at least once a week, yet everyday include a timeframe that allows you to eat healthy, exercise and focus on your goals.

School is another essential element of time management, since if you do not have education, what kind of job will benefit you in reaching your goals. If you want to take years or more to achieve your goals, skip school.

Finally, we can look at activities. Are we spending too much time on activities that are not benefiting our road to reaching our goals, or does our activities help us in manifesting the ability to manage time and reach goals?

Have you ever felt taken advantage of? Of course you have…we all have at some point. What happened when you felt that way? Did you sulk and kick yourself for allowing yourself to be taken advantage of? Or did you learn something from that experience?

People allow themselves to be taken advantage of simply because they don’t know what they are worth. A poor sense of self-worth inevitably leads to you being taken advantage of because you don’t know how to say no.

YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE

The first step to determining what you’re worth is to decide that your time is valuable. Whether you work a full-time job, or you are a stay at home mom, your time is just as valuable as the next person’s.

Place a dollar value on your time. How much would you say you’re worth per hour? When you can place this kidn of value on yourself, it will not be quite so easy to try to take on the whole world by yourself.

YOUR THOUGHTS ARE POWERFUL

The second step you should take is to remind yourself that your thoughts are powerful. With your thoughts, you have the ability to choose to be happy or discontent. You can decide if you’ll allow yourself to be used as a door mat, or if you will stand up for yourself, despite feeling uncomfortable about it.

Your thoughts control your actions. When you begin to believe you’re worth more, your thoughts will start to take a shift in the same direction. You’ll suddenly begin to see more opportunities. You’ll be able to make more informed decisions. You’ll practice loving yourself more.

Determining your self-worth is important, and is something that every person should do.
