Don’t wait for the right time, take control of your life now

There’s so much going on all around us that it might feel like you’re not able to take control of your life. However, through positive thought and action, you can put yourself back in the driver’s seat for your own life. It’s a refreshingly liberating thought. Consider the following thoughts in taking control of your life.

1. Wake Up And Be Aware

So many times, it seems like people go through their existence with blinders on. We get into ruts of our patterns and routines, everything from the route you use to drive to work to the way you handle regular tasks once you get there. In personal life this is represented by sticking with the same haircut forever or always ordering the same thing at your favorite restaurant. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with having patterns and preferences, the fact remains that the more of your life you put on autopilot, the less aware you will be of your surroundings. To be in control, you must be observant. You must know what is going on around you and how it will impact your own existence.

2. Know what you want and don’t be afraid to insist on it

This one might appear to be a no-brainer, but it’s amazing how few people in the world are able to articulate what it is they truly want out of a given situation. If you were asked that question right now, how readily could you give an answer, and how close would it be to your actual heart’s desire? Take the time to listen, observe, research… whatever it takes to help you hear the message in your soul. Once you have more of a clue about what you truly want out of a situation, be it work or personal issues, don’t be afraid to hold out for what you want. It’s okay to be stubborn; you are only looking out for yourself. Know when to say when, in your own self interest.

3. Understand when to let go

By the same token, though, remember that being in control of your life does not have to mean that you turn into a control freak. As you scope out and determine your true heart’s desires and objectives, remember to prioritize the list. Think in terms of what you want and need most, in comparison to what might be nice to have but not a deal breaker. Acquiring this level of self awareness means that you will be more readily able to put your foot down on the points that matter most to you. If it’s not that important, and giving in will help you get something vital, then thoughtful surrender can give you tremendous headway in achieving your ultimate goals. And any time you surrender, it’s much more advantageous to you that it be on your own terms. Make it all work for you.

Finally, cultivate a true spirit of self respect and appreciation in yourself. When you honestly believe yourself to be worth fighting for, the positive thought will lead to the positive action of sticking up for yourself more assertively. All things considered, we’re here on earth for a pretty short time; make the best of your time by endeavoring to take control of your life.
