11 Creative Challenges To Try
Creating something with your own hands has so many benefits, the biggest one being the feeling of accomplishment you get once you have finished a project.
Being creative gets your mind spinning in different directions and challenges you to come up with ideas that you might have never had before, and to think in ways that you might not normally.
The only issue that a lot of people have with doing something creative is that sometimes they just don’t know where to start.
Here are a few ideas to help you get those creative juices flowing:
1. Do a self portrait:
Watercolor, charcoal, ink, whatever, just take a look in the mirror and draw what you see.
2. Paint a landscape:
This is an excuse to go outside, be with nature and do something creative at the same time.
3. Write a poem to a lover:
It’s not as easy as you would expect, and challenges you to find all the amazing reasons you love someone.
4. Write a song:
Songwriting is such an abstract art, so pretty much anything counts as music these days. Find some inspiration, write out some chords, and let the creating begin.
5. Write a play:
Plays are often very emotional and dramatic and it can be fun to get into the minds of the characters you have created, and pretend to be someone else for awhile.
6. Write a book:
A lot more people start writing books, than finish them, but just taking the time to construct a plot, create some characters and devise a plan is enough to make you feel like a writer already.
7. Knit a sweater:
Maybe writing isn’t your strong suit, but you love being creative, then knitting could be just the thing for you.
8. Do needle point:
In terms of being creative, needle point doesn’t exactly push you to the limits, but it’s a good place to start.
9. Make a dress:
This definitely isn’t for everyone, but for some, it could lead down you down a road to many more creative projects that could make you look good and feel better about yourself.
10. Learn to play an instrument:
Be honest, how many times have you seen someone playing an instrument and said: ‘I can do that!’ The thing is you can. Just pick one up, pluck a string, and you become a musician instantly. Just not necessarily a good one right away though…
11. Join a band:
Once you’ve begun learning an instrument, there’s no better way to challenge yourself creatively than to join a band, or just jam with other musicians. It’s a great way to meet new people and be creative all at the same time.
If none of these ideas appeal to you, challenge yourself to think of new ways to be creative, maybe cooking, building or designing appeal to you. Whatever it is, just do it, and have a great time challenging yourself to do something new and keep your mind active.
